FROM THE BOOK:
"Soaking, or slaking, the plaster after it is introduced into the water is very important. Soaking allows each plaster particle to be completely saturated with water so that it is easier to disburse. Plaster mixes become completely wetted after two to four minutes. Short cuts in soaking will negatively influence the effectiveness of the mixing and, consequently, the quality of the finished glass mold."
