Weekend wedding retreat

"Beautiful, Relaxed Wedding Retreat", An Eventective User from Portland, Oregon

My husband's (then fiance) family was coming from across the country for our wedding and we wanted something special that would allow us to have as much time to spend together as possible and give them a real Oregon experience. Camp Colton was perfect and they are still talking about it. Actually both our families are quite large and at Camp Colton we were able to provide overnight accommodations for all of his 6 and my 3 brothers and sisters, parents, spouses, children and the wedding party for a very reasonable price. The cabins were fixed up and modernized nicely and very cozy and cute. A few people chose to camp that night, and there was room for many more.

The weekend started with a rehearsal dinner that went well into the wee hours around a crackling campfire big enough for all of us on Friday. Saturday, everyone had all day to hand around, hike, play horseshoes and enjoy the camp while the bride and groom rushed around getting ready. Well, the bride did. The groom enjoyed the camp with everyone else. Saturday evening was the ceremony in the chapel. It was so simple and beautiful. I can still remember the amazing smell of pine or fir. It was perfect and needed very little decoration because of the elegant simplicity of it. Our reception on a hot hot July day was the perfect temperature under the trees in the evening. The next day we were able to have a brunch for the wedding party and family.

The staff at Camp Colton were relaxed and helpful but not intrusive. They quietly hid in the sidelines making sure everything went smoothly and I hardly noticed they were there.

The one downside I can see is that they did not provide any catering, music, flowers, etc. I had to find that myself and it does add up when you start including it all. I wanted to find it myself mainly because I had very specific things I wanted and was able to get help from friends to save money, but if you are looking for a very easy all in one kind of wedding this might not be it.

We opted for the Camping wedding at camp Colton which allowed us to have a weekend long wedding celebration for up to 40 people who all got to stay in their well furnished, cozy cabins for the weekend. We could not have been happier. All of our guests were from out of town and we wanted to keep the experience small. Our guests arrived on Friday night amd when we arrived they had everything prepared for us, including the kindling and starter wood to start our own fire. Everyone was very happy wih their sleeping arrangements and got a chance to get to know each other over the campfire in the beautiful gazebo. The next day we had our ceremony at 2 in the afternoon in the beautiful glen of trees and during he ceremony we got to hear the birds chirping and the steam babbling. The honeymoon suite was the perfect place for me, the bride, and my closest friends and family to prepare for the ceremony. We had our catered reception in the gazebo and after dinner we had a great bonfire to dance the night away. The best thing about the camping wedding is hat everyone gets to spend time with one another for the weekend, it's not like a traditional wedding in which you get 4 or so hours to catch up with everyone. We loved our experience and will recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a small, absolutely gorgeous ceremony. Perfect for weddings where most guests are from out of town, as ours were. And as far as logistics go, we received our deposit back very promptly and had no problems. Thank you!!!!!

"To come to your wedding day after a year of preparation is overwhelming, but you all made it so smooth. I didn’t have to worry about a thing and I think that just about every guest specifically came up to me to say what a beautiful location and wedding. The cabin was a perfect retreat after a long, wonderful day. Thank you all so much!"
